Black Cherry

Scientific Name: Prunus serotina

This species can be identified because of the black tones to the bark and how the bark breaks up on the surface. Some people say that it forms "burnt cornflakes" that are on the side of the tree as it ages. Younger trees will have more of a smooth texture to the bark.

The bark of Black Oak does not form the individual platelets.
